Shatrughan Sinha shaves off his moustache for RGV's Rakta Charitra

For the first time in his career of 40 years as an actor, Shatrughan Sinha has shaved off his moustache. The critical decision to do away with the moustache was taken only after daughter Sonakshi approved.

The tragic relinquishment of the trademark Shotgun mouche came after weeks of persuasion.

"Initially I was taken aback by Ramu's request. I've never taken my moustache off in my entire life except once, and that was when I was still a student at the Film & Television Institute Of India. I wanted to experiment with my looks. My father had gone livid. 'How could you shave off your moustache when both your parents are still alive?' he had shouted at me. I had vowed never to touch my moustache, and I never did. Now of course both Baba and Maa are gone..."

Ram Gopal Varma had to cross many hurdles before he could get Shatrughan Sinha to shave off the moustache to play N T Rama Rao.

Chortles the voluble Sinha, "Besides my own inhibitions, my wife had to be manaoed. But the final decision was left to my daughter. After she relented I agreed on Saturday. Ramu was virtually standing behind me with a razor. I understand his anxiety. To play N.T. Rama Rao I had to be clean-shaven."

Shatrughan Sinha will also be doing away with his trademark mannerisms and dialogue delivery to play NTR. "None of the flamboyant playing to the galleries. I'm far more restrained here."

Ironically, the clean-shaven Vivek Oberoi has grown a moustache for Rakta Charitra. There's much father-son bonding happening between Shatrughan Sinha and Vivek Oberoi in Hyderabad.

Says Shatrughan, "What I really like about Vivek is that he truly loves and respects his parents. I completely understand that. For the first time, Ramu is working with the Shatrughan-Vivek jodi. We've seen what he can do with the Amitabh-Abhishek pair. Now just see what we do."

First Look of My Name is Khan

Working Hard For My Name is Khan

What is wet, a wee-bit-wrinkled and a superstar? Not ‘Jumbo’ like we all thought; but our very own Shah Rukh Khan.
At a set put up in Film City for My Name Is Khan, SRK was required to stay in neck-deep water for two days — in and out — and you know how the skin becomes when you’ve stayed in water for too long.

A li’l bit wrinkly. But SRK didn’t complain one bit. In fact, he was soon being called Mr Mermaid (in whispers, of course) around the sets. And even if he heard, he couldn’t get madder than a ‘wet’ hen (pun unintended); so, he laughed along with the unit at his watery get-up.

Happy Birthday SRK

Bollywood’s Badshah Shah Rukh Khan, who’s turned 44 today, came in from Delhi to ring in his birthday with best friend Karan Johar, gorgeous wife Gauri Khan and their two kids, Aryan and Suhana. Shah Rukh was in London till October 30, he then flew to New Delhi via Mumbai for a professional engagement and then landed back in Mumbai only hours before the clock struck 12 on his birthday.

Gauri and Karan are expected to host a surprise party for the actor with regulars like Juhi and Jai Mehta, Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan, Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, Chunky and Bhavna Panday, Kajal Anand, Arjun and Mehr Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan attending it.

The actor will also greet fans who gather outside Mannat each year on his birthday and is expec
ted to have an hour-long media interaction, too. “He usually ends up cutting at least two dozen cakes because he finds it hard to turn away any of his well-wishers,” said a source.

Be Ready For Big Release

Here are the big release for coming months. These are awaited movies.

  • 3 Idiots on 25th December.
  • KITES on 15th January.
  • VEER on 29th January.
  • MY NAME IS KHAN on 12th February.
Four biggies, starring Aamir, Hrithik, Salman and SRK, respectively, will arrive within a span of two months. The question is, will low cost and medium-budget films get the right exposure at cineplexes? Or will they get sidelined due to these colossal ventures?

Incidentally, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK was confirmed for 12th February, provided MY NAME IS KHAN doesn't arrive on that date. "When Karan [Johar] confirmed that MY NAME IS KHAN is indeed arriving on 12th February, I immediately took a call to shift KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK to a latter date. My film will now arrive on 26th February," Ritesh informs me.

However, one more biggie is slated for 12th February release - Ambika Hinduja's TEEN PATTI. Will it stick to that date or arrive later, is to be seen.
